WORKSHOP FOR THE PRESENTATION OF THE RESULTS OF THE PRELIMINARY STUDIES OF THE KIKOT HYDROELECTRIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT TO CAMEROONIAN CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS
The said workshop was held on March 21, 2023 in the Conference Room of Star Land Hotel, located in the Bastos district in Yaounde. Participants included: civil society actors active in the management of natural resources, health, human rights, monitoring of infrastructure projects, representatives of MINEE and EDF Cameroon, etc. REPAR was also present at this seminar, represented by its Research Officer number 2. Organized by the Kikot Project team (Ministry of Water and Energy and EDF Cameroon), the meeting aimed to present the Kikot hydroelectric development project, the results of preliminary technical, environmental and social studies and to reflect on ways of collaborating with CSOs.
The work made it possible to present the preliminary results of the Kikot project and to reflect on avenues for collaboration. At the end of the various presentations, the participants agreed on the need to:
– Make an in-depth examination of the different proposals by the project team and the participants will be informed of the options chosen;
– Create a WhatsApp group to facilitate exchanges between the different parties and for a regular update of the progress of the project;
– Continue exchanges between CSOs, the Project and the Government in order to duplicate the Kikot Project approach in other ongoing projects;
– Continue raising awareness of CSOs on the technical aspects related to the construction of a hydroelectric dam for a better understanding of the related impacts;
– Involve CSOs in the dissemination of good information about the project
