About us

REPAR-Cameroon

is the national branch of the Network of Parliamentarians for the Sustainable Management of Central Africa Forest Ecosystems, attached to the Conference on Central African Moist Forest Ecosystems (CEFDHAC), a subsidiary body of the Central Africa Forest Commission (COMIFAC). It was created in March 2008. It has five categories of members:

  • Founding members;
  • Active members;
  • Resource persons;
  • Goodwill members;
  • Honorary members;

Structuring :

The REPAR-Cameroon is managed by two bodies:

  • The General Assembly and
  • The National Coordination.

At the operational phase, there are:

  • Focal points and
  • A permanent technical secretariat

Vision :

REPAR-Cameroon’s gaol is to contribute toward good governance in the sustainable and equitable management of natural resources, preservation of the environment and global sustainable development.

Objectives :

This vision can be realised by achieving the following objectives:

  • Involving parliamentarians in the process of formulating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating policies and laws on the conservation and sustainable management of Cameroon’s forest ecosystems;
  • Capacity building and training of parliamentarians on local, national and international issues;
  • Considering the interests of local and indigenous peoples when formulating and implementing laws on environmental management in general and forests in particular;
  • Abiding by commitments made by Cameroon;
  • Advocating on the need to sign, ratify and implement international conventions on the environment, forests and sustainable development;

Intervention Approach :

  • Control of public policies through oral questions
  • Publication of contribution documents on the improvement of public policies
  • Animation of various national forums;
  • Implementation of innovative initiatives;
  • Capacity building.

Some of our achievements :

  • Decisive contribution to the VPA/FLEGT negotiations between Cameroon and the European Union;
  • Organization of a Parliament-Government Dialogue on the issues of indigenous peoples;
  • Capacity building of dozens of Parliamentarians on emerging issues (Climate change, REDD+ APA ...);
  • Significant contribution to the fight against climate change through awareness raising of the populations, distribution of improved stoves and planting tens of thousands of trees on several sites (7 regions of Cameroon);
  • Organization of a National Forum for integrated management of mining and forest resources;
  • Participation in the Mining Forum;
  • Participation and contribution to the development of the Cameroon RPP as part of the REDD+ process;
  • Capacity building of Cameroon Parliamentarians, with a view to improving their contribution in discussions on law reforms and policy and strategy formulation on adaptation to climatic changes.
  • Development and evaluation of a Parliamentarians position paper on the REDD+ process;
  • Participation in Rio + 20;
  • Production of a documentary film about mining in Cameroon etc.
  • Organization of several Parliament-Government Forums on natural resource management and forestry, mining and land reforms.
  • Production of preparatory documents on land reform and adaptation to climate change.
  • Participation in all COP/UNFCCC since 2009 and CBFP meetings
  • REPAR is a member of several expert groups (Forestry law, land law, participatory mapping, SNES, PRECASSEM, APV/FLECGT Follow-up Committee, APA, etc.)
